Julian Sartorius

Julian Sartorius is een Zwitserse muzikant en percussionist is een artistieke duizendpoot. Hij heeft talloze soloalbums uitgebracht, creëert audiovisuele kunstwerken, werkt samen met muzikanten, schrijvers en kunstenaars en treedt live op in intieme zalen en op festivalpodia.

Opgeleid aan de jazzscholen in Bern en Luzern door instrumentalisten als Fabian Kuratli, Pierre Favre en Norbert Pfammatter, ontwikkelde Julian Sartorius al snel een eigen muzikale praktijk. Geïnteresseerd in fijnschalige variaties, spanning en loslaten, massa en vibratie, creëert hij projecten zoals de 12-LP-boxset "Beat Diary" (Everest Records, 2012), bestaande uit 365 beat tracks en een begeleidend fotoboek; de dagelijkse 8-seconden loopserie "Morphblog" (van 2013 tot 2019); of "Depot", een audiovisuele installatie voor 16 luidsprekers en 16 schermen. 

In de afgelopen jaren heeft Julian Sartorius samengewerkt met tal van muzikanten, waaronder Sophie Hunger, Sylvie Courvoisier, Gyda Valtysdottir, Dimlite, Shahzad Ismaily en Dan Carey. Zijn aparte percussiewerk is te horen op de huidige albums van Kate Tempest, Matthew Herbert en James Zoo.

Julian Sartorius heeft getoerd en live opgetreden in Noord- en Zuid-Amerika, Azië en Europa met artiesten als Marc Ribot, Deerhoof, Faust, Jaki Liebezeit en Arto Lindsay.

Julian Sartorius, a Swiss musician and percussionist, is a versatile artist. He has released numerous solo albums, creates audiovisual artworks, collaborates with musicians, writers, and artists, and performs live in intimate venues and at festival stages.

Trained at the jazz schools in Bern and Lucerne by instrumentalists such as Fabian Kuratli, Pierre Favre, and Norbert Pfammatter, Julian Sartorius quickly developed his own musical practice. Interested in fine-scale variations, tension and release, mass and vibration, he creates projects such as the 12-LP box set "Beat Diary" (Everest Records, 2012), consisting of 365 beat tracks and an accompanying photo book; the daily 8-second loop series "Morphblog" (from 2013 to 2019); and "Depot," an audiovisual installation for 16 speakers and 16 screens.

In recent years, Julian Sartorius has collaborated with numerous musicians, including Sophie Hunger, Sylvie Courvoisier, Gyda Valtysdottir, Dimlite, Shahzad Ismaily, and Dan Carey. His distinctive percussion work can be heard on the current albums of Kate Tempest, Matthew Herbert, and James Zoo.

Julian Sartorius has toured and performed live in North and South America, Asia, and Europe with artists such as Marc Ribot, Deerhoof, Faust, Jaki Liebezeit, and Arto Lindsay.
